openDBL at Websummit 2025 in Lisbon

This year, the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) participated in the Web Summit, one of the world’s largest and most influential technology conferences, held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 10–13 November 2025, alongside other EU entities to highlight how EU funding fosters innovation across multiple domains, including AI, high-performance computing, and digital infrastructure.

Among the four projects selected by HaDEA to join its booth and masterclass, openDBL was chosen to showcase its success story in digital transformation for the building sector.

Taking the Stage at HaDEA’s Masterclass

On 11 November in HaDEA’s Masterclass Room 3 titled “Investing in Future Technologies: How to Get EU Funding for Your Project?”, Our project Coordinator Italo Spada (CETMA) represented openDBL, sharing insights into how EU funding under Horizon Europe supports projects that turn visionary concepts into real-world innovation.

He was joined by Soumya Kanti Datta (Digiotouch), our Dissemination and Communication Partner, who highlighted the project’s mission to foster collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and long-term sustainability in the digital built environment.

openDBL Showcases the Future of Digital Buildings

On 12 November, openDBL took center stage at HaDEA Stand (E326, Pavilion 3), presenting a Virtual Reality (VR) demonstration to attendees exploring digital innovation and smart building solutions.

Italo together with Dario Cardone (CETMA), showcased the Giovanni Bovio School pilot site in Ruvo di Puglia, Italy, using the openDBL 3D Viewer — an immersive tool that brings buildings and infrastructures to life in virtual reality.

Visitors had the chance to explore firsthand how openDBL integrates AI, blockchain, IoT, and VR technologies to simplify data management across a building’s entire lifecycle, transforming how professionals in the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operations (AECO) sectors access, use, and share building information.

Collaboration Under the HaDEA Umbrella

openDBL was presented alongside other HaDEA-managed projects that demonstrate the diversity and impact of EU-funded research and innovation:

- AI4REALNET applies AI to strengthen Europe’s critical infrastructures.

- FIERCE helps SMEs use space data to accelerate green innovation.

- RadioVal advances AI tools for personalised breast cancer treatment.

Together, these projects illustrate how HaDEA, through the Horizon Europe program, is driving a more digital, sustainable, and resilient Europe.

A Proud Milestone for openDBL

Being selected by HaDEA to join the Web Summit 2025 was a remarkable achievement for openDBL — a recognition of the project’s innovative impact on the future of smart, data-driven buildings.

The event offered a unique platform to connect with startups, scale-ups, and investors from around the world and to present openDBL’s vision for a unified digital ecosystem that simplifies how we understand, maintain, and innovate the spaces we live and work in.

We sincerely thank HaDEA for their invitation, our partners CETMA and Digiotouch for their exceptional representation, and all visitors who experienced the openDBL VR in Lisbon.

With innovation, collaboration, and European support, openDBL continues to pave the way for a smarter and more connected built environment.
