On June 27, 2024, the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE), in collaboration with openDBL's partner Kifissia, hosted a workshop titled "Application of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in Existing Buildings." This event, part of TEE's ongoing professional development initiatives, focused on the practical implementation of BIM technology in renovation projects.

Special thanks are due to the Technical Chamber of Greece and the Municipality of Kifissia (Δήμος Κηφισιάς) for their excellent organization of the workshop. The event drew architects, engineers, and construction professionals, all keen to explore BIM's transformative potential in existing buildings.

Key highlights of the workshop included:

Opening Speeches

The event was inaugurated by George Kokkolis, General Secretary of the Municipality of Kifissia (Δήμος Κηφισιάς), along with Mario Caputi, Angela Gaitani, and Liana Anagnostaki, setting the tone for a day of insightful discussions.

Project Presentations

Italo Spada, Project Coordinator of openDBL, presented the openDBL project, outlining its mission, consortium partners, working packages, business model, and implementation steps.

Advanced Digital Solutions

Mario Caputi from in2it discussed advanced digital solutions in BIM, including Scan to BIM, BIM Authoring, Common Data Environment, BIM to Field, BIM to FM, and the integration of AI/ML, VR, and Blockchain technologies.

Technical Sessions

Hands-on sessions provided participants with direct experience using BIM software tools, demonstrating the step-by-step process of creating and managing digital representations of physical spaces.

Case Studies and Practical Applications

Real-world examples of successful BIM implementations in existing buildings illustrated the challenges and solutions encountered in practice.

Angela Gaitani, Project Manager of the openDBL project at the pilot site in Kifissia (Δήμος Κηφισιάς), concluded the event by thanking all attendees and organizers for their participation and contributions.

The collaborative effort between TEE and openDBL Kifissia highlighted the importance of continuous education in the evolving field of construction technology. This workshop emphasized BIM's role in modernizing building management practices, aligning with openDBL's mission to promote sustainable and innovative solutions in the built environment.
